Diazepam: Pharmacology

Benzodiazepines bind to specific receptors in the central nervous system. They thus cause an increased inhibitory effect of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Diazepam has anxiolytic, sedative/hypnotic, muscle relaxant and anticonvulsant effects. The various benzodiazepines differ mainly in their kinetics.
